Why You Need Your Blog to Be Mobile-Friendly (and How to Get it That Way)

Did you know that 44 million people regularly access the web from their mobile devices? Furthermore, 84% of people surveyed expect sites that they visit to have a dedicated mobile version. You may think that no one is trying to read your blog via the mobile web, but you would likely be wrong. Even if you aren't doing anything to attract mobile readers it is likely that you are starting to get mobile traffic. This is especially true if you are involved in social networking. According to Opera, a leading mobile web browser, 41% of people accessing the mobile web are going to social networking sites. That's right. Mobile marketing and social networking are interwoven. So if you are an active participate in social networking it is even more likely that your blog is getting mobile visitors. All it takes is for someone to have a quick peek at their friends' status updates or their Twitterverse from their phone and BOOM you have a mobile web visitor. Do you know what they are seeing when they get there? Truly, it is not optional to have a mobile-friendly version of your blog. The good news is that it is very easy. Really. If you use WordPress, you can simply install a plug in and you're all set. The plugin in will detect which type of browser each visitor is using to access your site. If you have a different kind of blog and have access to your RSS feed, there is another easy solution. Simply go to MoFuse.com and follow the online instructions to Mobilize your blog. MoFuse will walk you through it step by step. When you get to the very end it will pop up a screen that says Your Mobile Site Has Launched. There will be three choices of action on this pop up. Choose Automatic Detect & Redirect. Then follow the directions to grab a small piece of code and place it on your blog.
